The Northern Blues VFL-listed Palmer has taken on the Kangaroos as his home club.
Drafted from North Ballarat Rebels in 2014, Palmer is fresh out of the AFL after being delisted by the Power at the end of last season.
He played his only three AFL games in 2016 and spent all last year with Port Adelaide in the SANFL
East Point president Garry Wilson said the club had persuaded the 21-year-old to get on board through ties from his days at St Patrick’s College.
Wilson is unsure how often Palmer will be available to play in the BFL, but believes he will make several appearances with the Roos early in the season as he comes out of rehabilitation from shoulder surgery late last year.
Palmer is yet to start pre-season training.
The signing continues a trend by East Point to secure talented youngsters either with VFL contracts and pursuing a VFL contract.
These include Joel Ottavi (Keilor/Buninyong) and Jacob Brown (Hepburn) training with Essendon, Jordan Johnston (GWV Rebels/North Ballarat City) training with Northern Blues and Cam Lovig (Daylesford) training with Sandringham.
Wilson said he was not concerned by any selection issues having several VFL-listed players might cause through uncertainty of availability.
He said there was a trend of VFL clubs looking to young players from the country and he was confident East Point would be able to establish strong lines of communications to work through any selection queries which might arise.
